Behind the Video: ScHoolBoy Q “Break THe Bank”
If you’re feeling that ScHoolboy Q “Break tHe Bank” video that dropped late last week, you’re not alone. Our Issue 53 cover subject brings the raw realness as pure and uncut as ever. The videos off Oxymoron have created a composite of the rapper, with “Break tHe Bank” taking us back to his South Central neighborhood, where it all began. Gritty alley ways, abandoned houses, 40 sippin’; this is Q in his Habitat. Capitalized H and all.
With our very own Jason Goldwatch at the helm, we can do more than rave about the visuals, and offer insight into how the collaboration came to be and what went on behind the scenes. Peep the BTS video above, and some exclusive photos and quotes below. Oh, and cop Oxymoron tomorrow, that’s the shit you gon bump, that’s the shit that you want.
“I was at Alchemist’s studio smoking weed and ScHoolboy was there hanging out. Alchemist brought up that beat, he had already made it. But I was in the studio with him making the song and Al was sort of in and out and me and Q were kicking it in the studio. And then I watched him go into the studio… If you listen to that song there’s like 20 fucking layers of him harmonizing. I watched him just lay tracks. I watched him turn that song into something pretty amazing at Alchemist’s studio. And then fucking months later it came through the pipeline through TDE and they were like ‘Do you want to do this video?’ And I was like ‘Oh shit I was there when they made that, that’s fresh.’
