Barbara Kruger Reminds Us That “Arts Matter” in LA
Barbara Kruger is helping to raise money for art education by covering buses and billboards with her words and work in Los Angeles.
Barbara Kruger’s text and design-driven art work have inspired both Shepard Fairey’s OBEY logo and Supreme’s ubiquitous “box logo,” now the artist and professor at UCLA is helping to raise money for art education by covering buses and billboards with her words and work in Los Angeles.
Part of the Los Angeles Fund for Public Education‘s “#ArtsMatter” campaign, the buses will serve as mobile ads and art installations that raise money for — and awareness about — art education in the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest in the nation .
The LAUSD has been subject to budget cuts to the tune of $1.5 million, #ArtsMatter seeks to raise enough money to restore what was lost. The art will appear on city buses, bus shelters and billboards all over the city and online #ArtsMatter has Twitter support of Justin Bieber, Steven Tyler and Mars Volta’s Cedric Bixler-Zavala among others.
So far $450,000 has been raised and you can contribute to the at their donation site.
