A$AP Rocky Drops “Unicorn” and Details on Instrumental Album
Mob follow suit.
Unicorns are rare, like Lord Flacko himself, and that PMF come through with two new offerings, one of which takes its name from the horned mythological horse. “Unicorn” is the first sampling from A$AP Rocky’s forthcoming instrumental project titled Beauty and the Beast — Smoke Down Sessions Chapter 1. The beat follows up on Rocky’s promise to deliver “really druggy, ambient shit” as our work weary minds slip into his warped and distant sounds. More striking perhaps is the album’s cover art, illustrated and full of subtleties and details.
In addition, Rocky dropped an “art video” for “Riot Rave,” a Baauer-assisted mini-documentary of sorts that chronicles some riotous behavior demonstrated by Rocky, his A$AP cohorts, and a flock of hoodie-rocking participants. We could be wrong, but is that our pal Luka Sabbat at the 2:44 mark? Either way, this anarchist send up features graffiti and skateboarding, so you know we’re down. And some adjacent random art imagery? And a lengthy disclaimer at the beginning? And a little note from Pretty Flacko himself? “This is really about the message, it’s about the cause,” you can hear Rocky saying with the city skyline in focus. The vid is presented by clothing label VLONE as well, and our best guess at what that message might be is that the power is with the people, perhaps. Rocky’s got some rage, and we’re looking forward to how else he presents it.
With these being the first we’ve heard since Beauty and the Beast — Smoke Down Sessions Chapter 1 was announced, we expect a continued rollout with the project in the not so distant future. The A$AP Mob debut EP L.O.R.D. is in stores tomorrow.
