Why we loved her at CMJ: You already read about Fade To Mind’s first lady, singer Kelela in our CMJ Preview. Now that her hectic week of shows has came and gone, we’re still buzzing off the high we got from her enigmatic live show. Dripping with raw emotion and chill-inducing R&B ballads, Kelela wow’d packed crowds all week with her sexy words and powerful performances.
All I Need Is One:
“I started writing music shortly after getting my first laptop. I think it was a combination of being able to multi-track, edit and double my vocals alone in my room with no one there to hear my fuck-ups. I made my first song in Garage Band and then learned Ableton on it. I edited the vocal stems of the mixtape on it. It’s nearing its death, I think, but it helped me translate a really abstract dream into a listenable reality.”
