The worlds of advertising and art collided in a friendly competition earlier this month at the Ace Hotel in New York City. ABCecret Walls celebrated the book release of ABCs of Contemporary Creatives by Tim Nolan and Jen Lu. Organized by Monorex and Bernstein & Andriulli, the event was an original take on the Secret Walls series of art battles hosted around the world.
The clash between two teams pitted advertising stars Matt Egan of BFG9000 and Gian Galang of The Brooklyn Brothers against artists Jeremyville and Buff Monster. 6 ft x 10 ft canvases came to life before an audience as the competitors worked feverishly to outdo each other. B&A’s Aaron Barr played emcee for the night, as DJ John McSwain rocked the house, and Stoli served up Secret Walls branded cocktails with intriguing names such as “Sticki Canvas” and “Battle Portion”.
The final works were judged by Ron English, Carlo Mccormick, Goodwives and Warriors and Stephen Bliss. It was a close competition, with the ad creatives getting a good strong start, but in the end artists Jeremyville and Buff Monster triumphed with their inspirational work “Stay Free Forever.”
