If you haven’t heard, Jay-Z is building an empire. As if legendary rapper, clothing designer, record label boss, and NBA owner weren’t enough, Hov has recently launched Roc Nation Sports, selling his stake in the Brooklyn Nets to be a sports agent. He’s been seen getting his Jerry Maguire on for the likes of Robinson Cano, Geno Smith, Skylar Diggins, and reportedly Kevin Durant. That’s a diverse portfolio of athletes right there, but you know Jay is plotting on his next move. We wonder, though, who would be the best fit for his growing sports family?
Jay knows a thing or two about comebacks and DRose is set to make one of the biggest in NBA history. The former league MVP has been sidelined for over a year with an anterior cruciate ligament tear (that’s his ACL, folks). It’s going to take some work for Rose to climb back to the top of basketball’s elite, and siding with Jay would be a huge step toward that. Jay made Brooklyn Nets gear the new hot commodity and could reheat the Chicago point guard’s public presence. The bulk of Hov’s basketball references are about Michael Jordan and the Bulls, so what better way to put on then to represent the city’s newfound star? Plus he dropped that “Chi town’s D. Rose, I’m moving the Nets to BK” line on Watch the Throne and Kanye shouted him out on the “I Don’t Like” Remix. Jay is at the point now where he can call and meet anyone he wants. Kanye may not have asked him to drop Kris Humphries, but pick up Derrick Rose? Doesn’t seem too outlandish.
