Anything 2 Chainz and Drake touch is built to spill. The drama that unfolded at NYC’s W.i.P. nightclub has created a pool of issues that Drake and a slew of others are swimming in. Meanwhile, 2 Chainz is known for in-sighting less violent displays of tipped drinks with his flawless catalog of hits. Cases like Tity Boi and Drizzy’s are where art imitates life in the best and worst ways. X’s visual direction for “No Lie” applies another layer to their art of rap (shot before the drama) by applying coats upon coats of black paint on their video’s set. It’s akin to the drip style the sickest graf writers employ (KR, MIRF, etc.) These multiple references to a classic graf style alludes to X’s own pieces like the burlesque show, and mini masquerade ball he stages with the models. Look at it and tell us they don’t conjure up memories of Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” video. The writing’s on the wall. Keep watching.
